Learning Lunch: Quality vs Quantity
Online
The pandemic has pushed agencies, organizations and public involvement professionals everywhere to find new and creative ways to engage the public using online tools and other technologies.
This exercise has garnered amazing results in many instances where the number of participants has increased dramatically. While the number of people engaging may be up, is the quality of engagement as good as it was when we were doing more of it in person?
Join us to learn what the Utah Department of Transportation, Salt Lake City and the Idaho Transportation Department are doing to ensure that the quality of engagement is up, just like the numbers. Please come prepared to interact, ask questions and share your perspective on this important topic.

Learn about the engagement for the 600 acres of state-owned property at the current site of the Utah State Prison known as “The Point.”

X-Factor Strategic Communications and David Evans and Associates engaged over 10,000 Utahns statewide through a series of virtual and in-person engagement options, assembled five working groups composed of subject-matter experts, and an advocate stakeholder advisory committee. They took advantage of virtual meetings to quantify their efforts and show how public engagement meaningfully informed the decision-making process for the recently released plan.

Learning Lunch: Westside Matrix
Online | 12-1 p.m.
Join Joe Taylor of Salt Lake City Corporation’s Transportation Division and Angelo Papastamos of the Utah Department of Transportation as they present their study and findings of the Westside Transportation Equity Study. The study is intended to address a lack of transportation equity in Salt Lake City’s Westside neighborhoods. It explores how well transportation agencies are delivering quality transportation infrastructure and solutions to historically marginalized people, in a set of neighborhoods with high concentrations of minoritized populations.
The study seeks to address how the agencies can improve the transportation network to those with key equity needs; how can the community leverage the strengths of this diversity to create a quality transportation network for all. The Study utilized the Equity Index as a screening tool to identify areas where higher concentrations of people with historically marginalized characteristics reside and to provide insight on where transportation equity needs are most significant.
